My baby is one! Henry's first birthday was yesterday, January 5. I was reading a book last night from the American Academy of Pediatrics about the changes babies go through on their way to toddlerhood, and I was amazed at how much Henry will change between the ages of one and two. It was actually kind of mind-boggling that my non-walking, non-talking baby would become a walking, talking two year old in 364 days!
Here are some pictures from Henry's birthday party. It was last Saturday, and we had it at our church fellowship hall. John's family is so big, there was no way we could all fit in my house!

Here is a picture of Henry's cake. It was so yummy; I wish there was some left. But, alas, it's all gone. Looking at the pictures makes me want another piece!

Henry never would look at his cake. We were singing to him, and he just totally ignored us. He had no idea we were singing to him. You'll notice an apple slice in his hand. Little dude wanted nothing to do with that cake, and everything to do with that apple. Don't you love those curls!?

Here's the angle from my mom's camera. So I guess he did at least look at the cake. John blew out the candle for him.
Overall, it was a nice, low-key affair that I think (I hope!) was enjoyed by all.
On another note, entirely, here's a link to a Biblical sounding review of house rules. I can just hear John intoning these to Henry in his "God voice." Here's the link: http://www.kellymom.com/writings/parenting/lament.html
It's by a guy named Ian Frazier and is titled "Laws Concerning Food and Drink; Household Principles; Lamentations of the Father."

Dearest Laura,
The pictures are wonderful and your blog is so interesting! The Kellymom link is truly hilarious -- I laughed until I cried!! What a great sense of humor that writer has!
Henry's birthday party was terrific, and it looked like everyone there had a relaxing and happy time. You are such a good planner and organizer! Everything was just right. :-)
I love you and Henry and John. I am really looking forward to the miracle of Henry as he grows from age one to age two! What a fantastic little boy he is!
Love forever,

of birthdays and fish
It seemed like Henry had a great birthday. As far as the article linked - you can definitely tell he is a father because such details are lost on all childless people. I especially like the part where he talks about the fish with herbs... that one hasn't happened for me yet, but I am sure it will!
