Giving Thanks on Thanksgiving

Since today is Thanksgiving, I figured I would be as cliche as everyone else and list some of the things I'm thankful for.  This is, by no means, an exhaustive list.  :o)

I'm thankful for my relationship with Jesus.  I'm thankful that He forgives me and then forgets about all those yucky sins I tend to commit.  I'm thankful that He died on the cross for me.  I would be utterly and completely lost without Him.

I'm thankful for my husband.  John is such a wonderful complement to me; he is all the things I'm not.  So many times I wish I was more like him, especially in his ability to just let things roll off his back and not bother him.  He is a wonderful daddy, too, which leads me to my next thankful thing.

I'm thankful for my kiddos.  Henry is an absolute blessing, and I love being his mommy and watching him learn and do so many new things, seemingly every day.  I love when he says "love you mommy" and blows me a kiss.  I'm thankful that he is so willing to forgive and love.  And Miss B--I'm thankful for her, too.  It's not always easy inviting someone to be in your family, especially when you didn't have a hand in how they were raised.  But I have enjoyed our laughter together and watching her bond with John.

I'm thankful for my church and my church family.  They are an incredibly sweet group of people.  They are supportive and so edifying to one another.

I'm thankful for my youth group at church.  John and I have worked with the youth for 8 years.  8 years, people!  And we have gone from 2 youth on a Sunday morning to 10 or 12 each Sunday.  They make me laugh and keep me young, but they also humble me, because I know that only God can change their hearts.

I'm thankful for my family.  My parents, my sister, my grandparents, my in-laws...yes, I said my in-laws.  Marrying John tripled the number of people in my family!  :o)  I feel so loved by each of the people in my family; they accept me as the quirky, corny (that's for you, Sarah!), creative person that I am.  They also accept all the Type A tendencies I seem to have, without getting frustrated that my food can't touch.  They even give me a special plate!

I'm thankful for my friends.  I'm thankful that I can talk to them on the phone or email them every day and just be myself.  I treasure their friendship!

I'm thankful for other things, too, like a house and a car and clothes and food and a computer.  I'm thankful that John has a nice job that allows me to stay at home.  I'm thankful that someone brought RC Cola to the Thanksgiving dinner today (yummy stuff, that RC is!)  I'm thankful that I'm still nursing sweet Henry after almost two years, and I'm thankful that nobody says anything about it (at least to my face anyway.)  I'm thankful that I can own a Bible (or 2 or 3 or 4...) without fear of persecution, like being arrested or having them taken from me.

I'm thankful for the Thanksgiving service last night at church and how there were people of all colors and denominations there, and we were all worshipping together.  It felt like how heaven must feel.  I sang "It Is Well With My Soul" and on the echo part in the chorus, all the members of the black church sang it with me.  It was amazing!  God is so good.

We all have much to be thankful for.
