Middle of the Night Snuggles

I've been really tired lately, for two reasons mainly: #1--I'm staying up too late and #2--I sleep in four hour spurts. Because Henry still wakes up once to eat (usually anyway) I get to sleep beforehand for four or five hours and afterwards for three or four hours. So if you add it up, it sounds like I get between seven and nine hours sleep, which sounds great! But, when you factor in the thirty minutes or so that I'm awake feeding Henry in the middle of that stretch, I definitely don't feel like I'm getting eight hours of sleep per night!

Last night, Henry woke up at 3am to eat, so I fed him and was back snuggled into my own bed at 3:30. I had dozed off enough to be almost deep in sleep when I heard that oh-so-familiar cry start up again. I looked at the clock, and it was 4am. 4am! I bet he didn't even go back to sleep before he started crying again. As sleepy as I was, I didn't want to have to sit in the rocking chair again to feed Henry and I had clean clothes on the couch waiting to be folded, so I brought him to our bedroom to see if he would eat lying down and then go to sleep. Now, I'm not big on cosleeping, but at 4 this morning, I was too tired to really care!

Henry ate and ate to his little heart's desire, and then he fell asleep, all snuggled up next to Mommy, who was all snuggled up next to Daddy. I felt like the cream inside the Oreo, or the meat inside the sandwich. We slept like that until John got up for work, and then Henry and I slept another hour or so. While it's not something I want to make a habit of, it was really sweet to have some middle of the night snuggles!
